Michael Shirley - Fosse Highcross Ward

Born in Coventry, on leaving school at 16 years of age, Mike served a 5-year mechanical engineering apprenticeship.
After 9 years working in the automotive industry, Mike then retrained as a School Teacher at Trent Polytechnic eventually teaching at Earl Shilton Community College.

On returning to engineering in 1990, he spent 14 years as a crane surveyor, working for a major insurance inspection company.
In 2004, he and a business partner, started their own company, inspecting cranes, passenger lifts, and steam boilers. They eventually employed over 20 ex-military engineers.

Mike has lived in South Leicestershire for over 50 years, where his two children attended schools in Hinckley and Burbage.
He now has 3 grandchildren.

The last 12 years have been spent in Sharnford where, since retiring, Mike has become fully involved in local voluntary groups, and is now Chairman of Sharnford Parish Council.

Two years ago he was elected as a Councillor on Blaby District Council.
