September 2025 - Our Month in Review

Around The District

District councillors Roy Denney, Cheryl Cashmore, and district leader Ben Taylor joined with members of the Veteran Coffee Morning group when they attended the National Memorial Arboretum Monday 8th September.

The largest memorial at the Arboretum is the Armed Forces Memorial.

It is a nationally significant focus for Remembrance and was created to remember and recognise those who have given their lives in the service of the country since the end of the Second World War.

Since 1948 the men and women of the Armed Services have taken part in more than 50 operations and conflicts around the world, often working as part of the United Nations, NATO or other coalitions.

From the jungles of Malaysia to the South Atlantic seas the Armed Forces Memorial remembers those who have lost their lives around the world. It is particularly important for many, who have no grave to visit, or who remember those who are buried in far off places.

Our Armed Forces veterans attended the Daily Act of Remembrance, enjoyed a relaxing ride on the Land Train site tour, and spent the afternoon visiting the many memorials.

Blaby District Council Armed Forces Coffee and Wellbeing Mornings

The Coffee and Wellbeing mornings usually take place on the first Wednesday of every month in the Chamber at the Council Offices on Desford Road in Narborough from 10am to 12pm. Our next scheduled dates for 2025 are as follows:

  • Wednesday 1 October
  • Wednesday 5 November
  • Wednesday 3 December

Refreshments will be provided at each session and specialist workers will be in attendance to offer various activities, support, and guidance. Spouses, family members and carers are welcome to accompany those who wish to attend. Please note, the running of these events is subject to change. If you or someone you know is a veteran in the Blaby District and would like to know more about our Armed Forces support, please email [email protected]
