Trevor Matthews is a Lancashire lad, born in Oldham and on leaving school at 15 commenced a career in Horticulture, gaining an Apprenticeship with the Borough Council for 3 years.
Upon joining the Army with the Royal Army Service Corps he gained a special posting at the War Office in Whitehall, London.
On completing his service, he was selected to continue his horticultural training at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, gaining the Kew Diploma in Horticulture.
On leaving Kew Trevor was appointed the first Parks and Cemeteries Superintendent with the Blaydon-on-Tyne UDC and after completing his final examinations for the Institute of Park and Recreations as a Fellow, he accepted the position of the newly created Deputy Parks Manager with the reorganised new Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.

In 1988 he moved with his wife and family to Narborough.
He has a daughter and a son and now 4 grandchildren. His daughter is a Secondary School Teacher and son works in Finance as a Project Leader.
Continuing with his career in Local Government Trevor was for 13 years Clerk to the Council for Broughton Astley Parish Council and a Member and Chairman of Narborough Parish Council.
Locally he is perhaps better known as the Reader for the Parish Church, President of the Local Heritage Society and a Life Vice President of the National Allotment Association.
He is also a Committee Member and past Chairman of the local Allotments Committee and a Director and Trustee of the National Allotment Gardens Trust.
