Blaby District Council: Narborough and Littlethorpe

I am a hard-working District Councillor who believes passionately in putting people and our communities first.
Over the years, I have undertaken a wide range of voluntary roles because I believe that representing a community is about much more than attending meetings. It is about being visible, listening to residents and, wherever possible, taking practical action to help.
I have served as a Special Police Constable and, more recently, as a School Governor and Chair of Governors at Greystoke Primary School in Narborough, where my daughter attended.
My commitment to helping others became particularly important during the Covid pandemic, when I began cooking hot meals for elderly neighbours. I quickly realised that it wasn’t just the home-cooked meal that mattered — it was also the feeling of being cared for, listened to and appreciated. That tradition has continued, and I now cook and deliver sixteen meals every week.
For me, being a councillor isn’t simply about knowing how to ‘get things done’. It is about having the time, compassion and empathy to understand what residents need — even if sometimes that means nothing more complicated than a shepherd’s pie and a conversation.
I support our local Wombles, helping to keep our communities clean and free of litter. I really enjoy spending time with like-minded volunteers, chatting while keeping our eyes peeled for the next piece of litter to pick up. Just an hour a week can make a real difference to the places we are proud to call home.
My commitment to local government began more than ten years ago when I became a Parish Councillor. I served for four years as Chairman of my local Parish Council before being elected to Blaby District Council in 2019 for the Narborough and LIttlethorpe ward. I was re-elected in 2023 and currently serve as Blaby District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services & Assets. My portfolio includes parks and open spaces, refuse and recycling, district cleansing, fleet management, car parks and council assets.
During my time as a councillor, I have supported residents on a wide range of issues — from dealing with overhanging branches and local environmental concerns to helping residents affected by serious flooding and homelessness.
Earlier this year, I helped deliver sandbags through the night to residents as they tried to protect their homes from surface flooding. I then helped with the clean-up in the days that followed. Experiences like this reinforce my belief in the incredible community spirit that exists locally, while also highlighting the very real impact that extreme weather can have on our communities.
As Portfolio Holder, I have also been involved in delivering practical improvements across the district. This includes supporting the development of new approaches to biodiversity and the management of parks and nature areas, including new management plans for strategic sites and support for community environmental projects.
I have also supported work to give local town and parish councils greater involvement in the management of their own open spaces, recognising that local councils often have an excellent understanding of the needs of their communities.
Environmental improvements have also been an important part of my portfolio, including the installation of solar panels at the Council’s leisure centre and depot and progress towards electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
I am proud of the work I have undertaken both as a volunteer and as an elected representative. But I also recognise that there is always more to do.
For me, local politics is ultimately about people. It is about listening to residents, understanding their concerns, working with community groups and volunteers, and doing everything I can to make our communities better places to live.
I very much look forward to the opportunity to continue representing the residents of Narborough and Littlethorpe and to building on the work I have already undertaken in the communities I am proud to call home.
